Parish Plan News

W
elcome to the Frome Valley Parish Plan. The Plan looks at the rural settlements of Cattistock,
Chilfrome and Frome St Quintin and their surrounding hamlets, their location, demographics,
relationship with each other and the nearest towns and villages.
P
erhaps more importantly it considers the current issues and concerns of the residents
and looks at ways of either mitigating or resolving these matters. Obviously some of
the identified actions will be easier to achieve than others and it will be essential to
keep the residents of the Frome Valley fully informed and involved both with the initial
findings and the proposed action plan, with regular opportunities to stay in touch and
voice their opinions as these actions progress.

An inaugural presentation by Dorset Community Action (DCA) to the Parish Council
took place in March 2005. This was followed by an open meeting to promote the concept
of a Parish Plan for the Frome Valley which was held in Cattistock in May 2005.
Around thirty-five residents attended the meeting and the Parish Plan Steering Group
was formed from five volunteers with the addition of two Parish Council representatives

The Steering Group decided to promote awareness of the intention to produce a Parish Plan.

Grants were applied for and WDDC contributed a grant of £1,500 towards the cost of
developing the Parish Plan, with the Parish Council  contributing a further £150

About The Frome Valley
T
he Frome Valley Parish consists of three principle settlements Cattistock, Chilfrome and Frome St Quintin
together with the smaller hamlets of Chalmington, Chantmarle, Sandhills and parts of Holywell and Warden Hill.

They are situated approximately half way between Dorchester (County Town of Dorset – 10 miles from Cattistock)
and Yeovil in Somerset (13 miles from Cattistock). Lying just west of the main A37 (Bristol – Dorchester Trunk Road)
and just to the North of the larger village of Maiden Newton, the Frome Valley takes its name from the River Frome,
which flows through the parish from North to South.
