Maiden Newton & District Community
Museum Trust
We are a registered charity dedicated to advance the education
of the public and to preserve the history of this area.
We collect photographs of local presonalities
and places,
and memorabilia, which we use for displays at village events.
We have produced a CD-ROM containing copies of
all our
photographs which is available for educational purposes.
We are keen that such information is not lost and welcome
loans or gifts of such material.
We record tombstone inscriptions for
posterity.
Those for Chilfrome have already been published, those for
Cattistock and Frome Vauchurch are in the pipeline.
We occasionally arrange talks to which the public are invited.
We like to visit places of interest to increase
our knowledge
of the area.
We produced leaflets about wartime
recollections for several
villages in the area.
In the past we have mounted exhibitions on the
history of the
schools in the area, Maiden Newton in wartime, and we hope to
mount another next year on the subject of village houses and history.
New members welcome.
To celebrate the Millenium, We published a
booklet entitled
"The Fancy Fair to Maiden Newton", a copy of a booklet in
the Dorset County Museum.
